At 9 years old, 2023's youngest particpant Toby Upcroft took on Mount Kosciusko, supported by his Mum, Dad, Nonna and family friend Rebecca.
Leading up to the climb, Toby's heart was set on the breathtaking view that he was going to see from the top. And he wasn’t disappointed! Clad in his "Among Us" theme, Toby's entrance was accompanied by the electrifying tunes of AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" - he truly rocked that mountain like a champ!
With a combination of a race runner and a green machine all-terrain wheelchair, Team Toby conquered the mountain and raised over $14,000 in the process.
Toby's Dad, Robbie, was completely blown away by the outpouring of support from friends, family, colleagues, and corporate sponsor. And after the climb, he summed up their experience perfectly:
"As a family, this has shown us that there is nothing to stop Toby from achieving his goals."
Robbie's top tip to prepare is both simple and effective:
"Go on lots of walks, get your strength up, but most of all, have fun!"
And he's absolutely right - there's no substitute for building up your endurance and getting your body in tip-top shape. But above all, it's essential to enjoy the journey and keep a positive mindset.
But when it comes to the ultimate piece of advice, it's hard to beat Toby's words of wisdom. When asked for his top tip, he simply said,
"Get someone fit for your team!!"
